High-protein, ridiculously easy, and proof that cottage cheese really can do everything.
At this point, cottage cheese has been blended, baked, whipped, turned into pasta sauce, added to eggs, and somehow made its way into dessert. So naturally, the internet decided its next assignment was pizza.
And surprisingly? We’re into it.
The viral cottage cheese pizza takes one of our favorite comfort foods and gives it a high-protein upgrade with a simple crust made primarily from cottage cheese, egg, and flour. The result is a thin, savory pizza base that you can load with sauce, cheese, veggies, pepperoni, or whatever happens to be sitting in your fridge.
It’s not trying to replace your favorite Friday-night pizza spot. Think of it more as the easy weekday version you can throw together when you want pizza and something that will actually keep you full.
Best of all, there’s no yeast, no waiting for dough to rise, and no complicated pizza-making situation happening in your kitchen.
Here’s how to make it.
Viral High-Protein Cottage Cheese Pizza
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 25–30 minutes
Total time: About 40 minutes
Servings: 1 large personal pizza
Estimated Nutrition
For the entire pizza, you’re looking at approximately:
Calories: ~700–750 calories
Protein: ~55–60g protein
Cut it into four slices and each slice comes out to approximately:
Calories: ~175–190 per slice
Protein: ~14–15g per slice
Not bad for pizza night.
Nutrition is estimated using cottage cheese, egg, all-purpose flour, pizza sauce, and part-skim mozzarella. Exact calories and protein will vary depending on the brands and toppings you use.
What You’ll Need
For the Cottage Cheese Crust:
1 cup cottage cheese
1 large egg
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
¼ teaspoon salt
Black pepper, to taste
For the Pizza:
⅓ cup pizza or marinara sauce
½ cup shredded part-skim mozzarella
Turkey pepperoni or regular pepperoni, optional
Sliced bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, spinach, or your favorite vegetables
Red pepper flakes, optional
Fresh basil, optional
Parmesan, optional
Step 1: Make Your Cottage Cheese Crust
Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Give the parchment a light spray with cooking oil to help prevent sticking.
Add the cottage cheese, egg, flour, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and a little black pepper to a blender or food processor.
Blend until everything comes together into a mostly smooth batter.
And yes, it will look much more like batter than traditional pizza dough. That’s exactly what you want.
Step 2: Shape + Bake
Pour the mixture onto your prepared baking sheet and use the back of a spoon or spatula to spread it into a thin circle or oval.
Try to keep the thickness relatively even, especially around the edges.
Bake for approximately 20–25 minutes, or until the crust looks golden and feels set in the center.
This first bake is the important step. If you add your toppings too early, you’re much more likely to end up with a soft or soggy center.
We want pizza. Not pizza soup.
Step 3: Add the Good Stuff
Once your crust is golden, remove it from the oven.
Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the top, leaving a little room around the edges. Sprinkle on your mozzarella and add whatever toppings you’re feeling.
Pepperoni is obviously a classic, but this is also very good with mushrooms, bell peppers, red onion, spinach, or even sliced jalapeños if you like a little heat.
Return the pizza to the oven for another 5–8 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 4: Finish It Like a Real Pizza
This is the part that takes it from healthy internet recipe to something you’ll genuinely want to eat again.
Once it comes out of the oven, finish it with fresh basil, red pepper flakes, cracked black pepper, or a little freshly grated Parmesan.
Let the pizza sit for a few minutes before slicing. The crust will firm up slightly as it cools, making it much easier to pick up.
Then slice and eat immediately.
Obviously.
The Relatable Tip: Don’t Skip the First Bake
The biggest mistake you can make with cottage cheese pizza is rushing the crust.
Because cottage cheese naturally contains a lot of moisture, you want to give the base enough time in the oven to actually brown before adding sauce and cheese.
For an even firmer crust, you can also strain particularly watery cottage cheese before blending it.
And when it comes to sauce, less is more. Too much sauce can weigh down the center and make your pizza softer.
Want Even More Protein?
With an estimated 55–60 grams of protein for the entire pizza, the basic recipe already packs a pretty impressive amount.
But if you want to turn it into an even more filling lunch or dinner, the toppings are where you can really take it up a notch.
Try adding:
Grilled chicken
Lean ground beef
Turkey pepperoni
Extra mozzarella
Chicken sausage
A little Parmesan
One of our favorite combinations? Mozzarella + grilled chicken + red onion + jalapeño + a tiny drizzle of hot honey.
Sweet, spicy, cheesy. Done.
Our Other Topping Combos
The Classic:
Pizza sauce + mozzarella + pepperoni + Parmesan + red pepper flakes.
The Hot Honey:
Mozzarella + chicken + jalapeños + red onion + hot honey.
The Veggie:
Pizza sauce + mozzarella + mushrooms + bell peppers + spinach + red onion.
The Garlic:
A light layer of sauce + mozzarella + grilled chicken + roasted garlic + Parmesan + fresh basil.
So…Does Cottage Cheese Pizza Actually Taste Like Cottage Cheese?
Not really.
Once the cottage cheese is blended with the egg, flour, and seasonings and then baked until golden, that distinct cottage cheese texture disappears. What you’re left with is a savory base with a mild flavor that lets the pizza toppings do most of the talking.
Is it identical to traditional pizza dough? No.
But for something you can make on a random Tuesday with ingredients you probably already have? It absolutely gets the job done.
And unlike some viral recipes that require seventeen specialty ingredients only to taste fine, this one is genuinely simple enough to make again.
The Relatable Verdict
We understand the hype.
It’s cheesy. It’s customizable. It has plenty of protein. And most importantly, it still feels like you’re having pizza for dinner instead of eating something that was engineered exclusively to hit a macro goal.
Make it for lunch, throw it together after work, or save it for the night when your brain is saying order pizza but your fridge is saying we literally have food at home.
Sometimes the internet gets it right.
The viral cottage cheese pizza can stay.
